Join Hands Day, a national day of volunteering on the first Saturday in May, was created five years ago by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies to bring youth and adults together to improve their communities. Join Hands Day events have taken place all across the country. Just some of these projects:

• Volunteers cleaned up a forgotten cemetery.

• Quilts were made for the Delaware County Chapter of the State Association for retarded children.

• Volunteers cleaned a four-mile section along the Erie Canal.

• Volunteers collected new and used Pajamas for children (up to age 17) ithout families or permanent homes.

• Volunteers hosted a mural painting event at a crisis center for women.

• Adults and Children visited a house for terminally ill people; they brought cookies and spread warmth and laughter.
